Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki Bans Meru Governor's Outreach Meetings Following Chaos

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kithure Kindiki, has issued a ban on the meetings organized under Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza's outreach program, known as Okolea. The decision comes in the wake of violent clashes that occurred during Mwangaza's recent Okolea function at Makiri in the Igembe South Constituency.

Kindiki, in a statement ,labeled Mwangaza's meetings as inciteful and accused the governor's supporters of initiating the chaos, which subsequently led to retaliation from opponents. The Interior Cabinet Secretary expressed his determination to handle the case in the same manner as he dealt with anti-government protests in the past.

"I am aware that Mwangaza is planning to hold a similar meeting in Imenti Central Constituency this Sunday," Kindiki stated, hinting at potential action against the governor if the event proceeds as planned.

During the previous Okolea function, clashes erupted, resulting in the burning of donated mattresses and the slaughter of a cow. Law enforcement swiftly responded to the situation, arresting ten individuals believed to be connected to the violence. Additionally, Meru Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma was summoned for questioning by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)

Mwangaza's Okolea program, which aimed to provide assistance and support to vulnerable individuals in Meru County, has been put on hold indefinitely due to the ban. The governor has yet to release an official statement regarding the recent events and the prohibition of her outreach activities #radatvupdates #radatvkenya
