Governor Wavinya Ndeti Calls On Government To Speed Up Cleaning River Athi.

Speaking at Kyawango Chief's Camp iñ Mwala Sub-county on Thursday where she presided over Public Participation, Governor Wavinya Ndeti noted that consumption and use of the Athi contaminated water was the key reason as to why the rate of cancer cases are rising day by day.

She noted that a commission to clean up river Athi was formed, asking President William Ruto to intervene for swift clean up of the river.

"Many residents of this Sub-county, Mwala, have been diagnosed with cancer as a result of this river , Athi. We formed a commission together with the National Government to see river Athi cleaned, but upto now, cleaning hasn't kicked off. Kindly, I request the commission to kick off with cleaning this river to help save lives of my people"- said Governor Wavinya
The River, Athi, cuts through Mavoko Constituency, Matungulu Constituency, Yatta Constituency and Mwala Constituency in Machakos County.

Following rampant pollution, the river was declared a national hazard.

Wavinya also called for all residents of Machakos to come out for cancer screening, for it's important to know health status before it's late.
"My government has established cancer screening and testing center in Machakos Level 5 to help manage cases of Cancer in Machakos County"- revealed Governor Wavinya

The public participation was a forum on the model of intergovernmental conditional allocations transfer agreements, which is been conducted in all Machakos Sub-counties.
