Governor Wavinya Partners with World Bank and FLLoCA to Launch Key Irrigation and Water Projects in Machakos

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti today hosted a high-level delegation from the World Bank and the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program, led by Mr. Robin Mearns, Director of the Global Development Department, and Mr. Peter Odhengo, Head of Climate Finance and Green Economy Unit at the National Treasury. The event marked the official launch of two major projects implemented under the FLLoCA program—Miu Irrigation Weir and Seme Earth Dam.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Ndeti expressed her commitment to enhancing water access and improving agricultural productivity in Machakos County. The projects are expected to provide significant relief to local farmers by supporting irrigation and improving water supply for both domestic and agricultural use.

In a bid to further promote fish farming, the Governor also announced that her government has stocked 5,000 fingerlings in the newly launched Seme Earth Dam and pledged to donate an additional 500,000 fingerlings to registered youth groups across Machakos County. This initiative aims to boost fish farming as a source of income for local communities.
Machakos County's partnership with FLLoCA will also see the commencement of construction works for the treatment plant at the Seme Earth Dam in Katani. The dam, which was desilted in the last financial year, will now undergo further development to enhance its capacity and efficiency.

These projects align with the county’s broader agenda of promoting sustainable development and addressing climate change, ensuring that residents have access to critical resources like water and promoting food security.
