MCSK CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua Calls on Artists to Inspire Hope

Today, Gospel artist Christine Otieno was honored with an Honorary Doctorate degree during a prestigious ceremony held at PEFA Church, South B, Nairobi. The occasion also marked the launch of her new book, Exploits of Grace, which chronicles her personal and spiritual journey and highlights her extensive charitable work. The event attracted notable guests including MCSK CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, legal scholar Prof. PLO Lumumba, NCCK Chairman Dr. Elias Otieno Agola, and Bishop Samuel Munai of PEFA Church.
Christine Otieno has made a significant impact through her Gospel music and her long-standing community advocacy, particularly her efforts in working with street children. In receiving the Honorary Doctorate, she was celebrated for her dedication to uplifting the vulnerable and serving as a beacon of hope. Exploits of Grace captures her inspiring journey from humble beginnings to becoming a transformative figure in both the music industry and society.
Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, in his keynote address, commended Christine for her integrity, compassion, and the positive influence of her ministry. He emphasized the importance of using artistic talents to uplift society, especially during challenging times. "Christine's work stands as a testament to the power of art and compassion. Her music touches lives, and her selfless service to the less fortunate is an impeccable legacy we cherish and honour today," Mutua remarked.

Dr. Mutua also used the platform to challenge fellow artists to harness their creative talents to inspire hope and counter the negative narratives dominating society. "In a world often overwhelmed by political tension and negativity, it is crucial for creatives to rise above and produce content that fosters happiness and unity. We need music, books, and other forms of art that illuminate hope. Our society is yearning for positivity, and it’s time for us to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth," he urged.
The event highlighted Christine Otieno’s profound influence within and beyond the Gospel music industry. From her deeply moving songs to her tireless efforts in aiding street children, she has touched countless lives. The Honorary Doctorate not only celebrates her achievements in music but also acknowledges her humanitarian work, reinforcing her legacy as a true servant leader.

In her acceptance speech, Christine expressed heartfelt gratitude to her family, mentors, and community. She shared how her faith guided her through life’s trials, enabling her to remain steadfast in her commitment to God and service to others. She dedicated the degree to the street children she’s worked with over the years, stating, "This is for every child who believed there’s hope beyond the streets. God’s grace has truly been my guide, and I will continue to serve as long as He gives me the strength."
The launch of Exploits of Grace and Christine’s recognition at the event served as a celebration of her ongoing journey of faith, music, and service to humanity. As her story reaches new heights, it continues to inspire many to seek grace and give back to their communities.
