MP CALEB MUTISO URGES YOUTH TO EMBRACE NYOTA PROGRAMME AS GOVERNMENT TARGETS 70,000 BENEFICIARIES

Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule Mutiso has called on young people to take full advantage of government-funded empowerment initiatives, particularly the NYOTA Programme, which aims to uplift livelihoods and expand job opportunities for the youth. Speaking on Sunday at Machakos Primary School, where 363 young people are currently undergoing business training under the NYOTA project, the MP urged participants to remain focused and use the funds they receive to establish viable small-scale ventures rather than diverting them to luxurious or unproductive activities.
MP Caleb Mutiso expressed concern that some selected beneficiaries were yet to report for training, warning that their reluctance could lead to the loss of millions of shillings in potential start-up capital. The national government, through the programme, is targeting approximately 70,000 youths across all electoral wards in the country, with each beneficiary set to receive KSh 50,000 as seed capital. He also cautioned the youth against using social media platforms and electronic gadgets to spread incitement or abuse others, noting that such behavior could cost them future employment opportunities. “Which company or organisation will employ inciters or abusers?” he posed.
Principal Secretary for MSMEs, Susan Mang’eni, who graced the event as the Chief Guest, emphasized that the government is equipping the youth with skills that align with what potential employers are seeking. She described the NYOTA Programme as an important job creation tool and encouraged eligible youths to apply and participate actively. Mang’eni added that young people with existing skills will receive certification after undergoing advanced training. She urged the beneficiaries to take the programme seriously, reminding them that they are the future industrialists who will drive economic growth, create jobs, and help lift the country out of poverty.
