Machakos County Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Secretary Christine Koki has raised concern over the rising cases of teenage pregnancies, especially in Machakos County.
Addressing the media at Machakos Social Hall earlier today while attending Women Empowerment Forum by FIDA Kenya, Koki revealed that teenage pregnancies in Machakos County have risen too high.
Christine Koki said the vulnerability of the girl-child continues unabated given the grim statistics of the rate at which teenage pregnancies are on the rise in Machakos County.
She called on women to take the lead in empowering girls and protect them from falling victim to teenage pregnancies.
"When we are here discussing how to empower the women of Kenya, socially, economically, and even politically, this is a story that should ring in our minds more often. Let's act and talk to our daughters. "- Koki added
Indeed, has urged parents to be more vigilant with their children, especially girls, when at home during this long school holiday.
Christine Koki expressed dissatisfaction with the increasing number of teenage pregnancies and all forms of abuse against girl-child and women folk in Machakos County.
Koki wants more attention to be given to the girl child as they are faced with increasing pressures and hazards in the form of sexual assaults, harassments, defilement, and unwanted pregnancies.
