Machakos Central MCA Nicholas Wangondi Intervenes to Halt Eviction of Traders Behind Level 5 Hospital

Traders operating behind Machakos Level 5 Hospital near Shalom Hospital faced a sudden and alarming eviction attempt today. Around 11 a.m., County Government officers arrived to enforce a 48-hour eviction notice previously issued to the traders. The short notice left many concerned about their future, as the area has been their primary source of income for over seven years.

Machakos Central Ward MCA Nicholas Nzioka Wangondi quickly responded to the scene, engaging with traders and assessing the tense situation. Recognizing the potential impact on the traders’ livelihoods, Wangondi reached out to Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, urging her to consider a more measured approach through dialogue before continuing with the eviction process. Governor Ndeti heeded Wangondi’s appeal and instructed the officers to suspend the eviction.
“We’re happy with our MCA Wangondi. It’s through his efforts that the eviction process has stopped. We appreciate our leader,” said one trader, voicing the collective relief among those present.

The traders, who have regularly paid for operational licenses, expressed concern about the lack of notice or designated relocation areas, which would significantly disrupt their businesses. Together with Machakos Boda Boda Chairperson Allan Musembi, they raised questions about potential compensation for losses already incurred during the process.

As of now, the eviction is on hold, but the traders remain in a state of uncertainty as they await further communication from the county on their future in the area.
