Prominent advocate and former Machakos County Senatorial aspirant, Wakili Benard Mung'ata, has vowed to challenge the government’s recent declaration that Konza City is officially part of Makueni County.
In an exclusive interview with Rada TV, Mung'ata termed the ruling as unjust and lacking critical processes such as public participation, consultation with stakeholders, and approval by County Assemblies. He also criticized the government for disregarding a previous Senate decision that had upheld Machakos County’s claim to Konza City.
The government’s monumental ruling resolved the long-standing boundary dispute between Machakos and Makueni Counties. It declared Konza City part of Makueni County and ordered the transfer of all land records in the disputed area from the Machakos Land Registry to the Wote Land Registry.
This decision has sparked outrage among Machakos residents, who feel sidelined and betrayed. They have raised concerns about losing their land and the economic benefits tied to Konza City, a key regional development project.
Mung'ata has pledged to lead the legal fight on behalf of the Machakos people, vowing to use all legal avenues to restore Konza City to Machakos County. He emphasized that the ruling undermines the rights of the affected residents and sets a dangerous precedent for resolving boundary disputes.
