SENATOR AGNES KAVINDU ENGAGES MASINGA FARMERS, INSPECTS MIU YA NGANGA RIVER

Machakos Senator, Hon. Agnes Kavindu, today held a consultative meeting with members of the Ekalakala Grain Co-op Society in Masinga Constituency, where they deliberated on various challenges affecting the agricultural sector in the region. Key issues raised by the farmers included high production costs, access to markets, post-harvest losses, and the need for better storage facilities.

Senator Kavindu assured the farmers of her commitment to advocating for government support, improved infrastructure, and access to affordable farm inputs to boost productivity.
“I promised to work hand in hand with them to address their concerns and support their initiatives,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of empowering cooperative societies to strengthen the agricultural sector.

After the meeting, the senator proceeded to Miu ya Nganga River, where she inspected the state of the water body following reports of declining water levels and environmental degradation. She noted that the river plays a crucial role in supporting irrigation, livestock farming, and domestic water supply for surrounding communities.
Senator Kavindu underscored the need for sustainable conservation measures, including reforestation, protection of water catchment areas, and community sensitization on responsible water usage. She further pledged to engage relevant authorities to address concerns about pollution and encroachment that threaten the river’s future.

Her visit reaffirmed her dedication to agricultural development, environmental conservation, and improving livelihoods across Machakos County.
