Renowned journalist and peace advocate Stephen Letoo this morning chaired a high-level peace meeting in Nairobi, bringing together youth from Bomachoge Borabu and Kilgoris constituencies following five days of deadly clashes at the Kisii-Kilgoris border.
The meeting resolved to de-escalate tensions between the Maasai and Gusii communities and called for an immediate end to hostilities. Key resolutions included:
1. Urging both communities to lay down their weapons with immediate effect.
2. Calling on security agencies to arrest individuals involved in cattle rustling, a crime that has resurfaced after years of peace.
3. Recommending that the Kisii and Narok county governments compensate families who have lost loved ones in the clashes.
4. Urging the two county governments to clear medical bills for over 50 victims currently hospitalized.
5. Launching a long-term peace initiative through the Ministry of Interior.
6. Establishing peace-linked activities along the border to foster harmony.
7. Urging social media users to exercise responsibility and avoid inciting violence online.
Letoo emphasized the need for unity, urging leaders and residents to work together for lasting peace. The resolutions mark a crucial step toward restoring normalcy and preventing further bloodshed in the region.
