Women MCAs Convene for 5th Annual Legislative Pre-Summit in Nairobi

Hundreds of Women Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) from across Kenya gathered at the Edge Convention Centre in Nairobi for the 5th Annual Legislative Pre-Summit, a key session of the ongoing Legislative Summit 2025.

The session was officially opened by Hon. Anne Kiusya, the Chairperson of the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) and Machakos County Assembly Speaker. In her remarks, she underscored the importance of women embracing leadership positions and maintaining their influence in governance.
Leading the discussions was Hon. Hellen Ndeti, Chairperson of the Machakos Women and Gender Equality Committee, who delivered a speech on behalf of Hon. Naomi Serem, the National Chair of CAF’s Women Chapter Kenya. She called on all county assemblies to establish Gender Committees to ensure women’s issues and equality remain a top legislative priority.

This high-level session focuses on empowering women legislators, enhancing accountability, and strengthening oversight in county governance. The Legislative Summit 2025 provides a vital platform for county leaders to exchange ideas, share best practices, and push for progressive policies that promote gender equality.
With discussions set to continue throughout the week, the forum is expected to yield actionable resolutions that will bolster women’s leadership and create more inclusive governance structures across the country.
