"Reconstituting IEBC Is Long Overdue — It's Time to Restore Representation," ~ MP Mwengi Mutuse

Kibwezi West MP Hon. Mwengi Mutuse has emphasized the urgent need to reconstitute the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), stating that the delay is denying Kenyans fair and full representation.

“Reconstituting IEBC is long overdue — it’s time to restore representation to every Kenyan,” Hon. Mutuse said while addressing congregants and fellow leaders during an interdenominational Sunday service and fundraising event at Nandi Hills Stadium.
He reaffirmed that the nomination process for new IEBC commissioners was not only consultative but also inclusive, having been born out of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) process co-chaired by Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka and Hon. Kimani Ichungwa.

“All political parties had representation in the selection panel, including the WIPER party through the renowned lawyer Dr. Koki Muli,” he noted. “As per the law, you cannot approbate and reprobate at the same time.”
Hon. Mutuse clarified that the nominees presented to the President were not handpicked but were a result of a competitive and legally sound process. “Those dissatisfied with any nominee have a constitutional right to raise their objections during the vetting process in Parliament,” he added.

He cited the absence of elected leaders in several areas as a major concern: “Six constituencies are without MPs, one county has no Senator, and seven wards lack MCAs. This is a serious injustice to the affected citizens.”

Looking ahead, Hon. Mutuse urged leaders to stop politicizing the IEBC and instead focus on electoral preparedness. “Elections are decided by voters—not by IEBC or government. Leaders must win over the electorate, not blame the referee.”
He concluded by calling for unity in building a credible and strong IEBC: “Let us all work together to strengthen, not weaken, the Commission.”

Hon. Mutuse was in the company of several key national leaders including Majority Leader Hon. Kimani Ichungwa, Hon. Farouk Kibet, Hon. Silvanus Osoro, Hon. Japheth Nyakundi, Hon. Didmus Barassa, Hon. Mark Nyamita, Hon. Fred Ikana, and host MP Bernard Kitur.
