Machakos Deputy Governor Hon. Francis Mwangangi has slammed the ongoing women empowerment programmes being rolled out across the country, terming them as politically motivated schemes designed to manipulate the public under the guise of progress.
Speaking during a press briefing in Machakos, Mwangangi labelled the exercise as a "wasteful and deceptive move" that risks draining public coffers and plunging the economy into turmoil akin to the economic collapse linked to the controversial YK’92 movement of the early 1990s.
“This women empowerment campaign is nothing more than a political tool. It is a misappropriation of taxpayer money and will leave us paying a heavy economic price,” he said.
Mwangangi further called upon President William Ruto to intervene immediately and halt what he termed an "unwarranted wastage of public resources," urging that any funding directed toward empowerment programmes must follow legal and transparent processes.
In a bold political statement, Mwangangi also took a swipe at Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki over recent attempts to court Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
“With all due respect, let me advise the senior professor of law to keep his hands off Kalonzo because the game he’s playing is futile,” said Mwangangi.
The Deputy Governor added that if Prof. Kindiki truly admired Kalonzo’s leadership and political values, he should consider ditching the Kenya Kwanza team and joining Kalonzo in Wiper.
Mwangangi's remarks come at a time of growing political tension and strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Kalonzo Musyoka emerging as a central figure in the opposition landscape.
