Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has raised the alarm over the continued underfunding of the education sector, terming it a serious threat to the future of the country’s children and national development.
Mwangangi emphasized that education remains the greatest equalizer and a critical tool in the fight against poverty. He noted that no country can achieve sustainable development without investing adequately in quality education for all.
“Education is the only avenue through which nations can fight poverty and co-create a sustainable future. When we underfund education, we directly compromise the destiny of our children,” he said.
The Deputy Governor called on both the national and county governments, as well as private stakeholders, to prioritize education funding and policy support, stressing that fighting for the right to quality education is a collective duty.
Mwangangi's sentiments come at a time when various institutions across the country are grappling with resource constraints, affecting learning outcomes, infrastructure, and teacher welfare.
