HON. PHILIP KILONZO URGES KENYANS TO ELECT TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERS AHEAD OF 2027

Former Machakos Lands CECM and Mavoko MP aspirant, Hon. Philip Mutua Kilonzo, has called on Kenyans to elect transformational leaders with a genuine heart for the country as the 2027 General Elections draw near.

Speaking to the media this evening in Machakos, Hon. Philip Kilonzo emphasized that leadership has a direct impact on the quality of life Kenyans live, stressing that good leadership is the foundation of national progress.
"Leadership determines the kind of life we live. Kenya has, for a long time, misunderstood politics to mean leadership. The truth is—politics and leadership are two very different things," said Hon. Philip Kilonzo.

He decried the culture of electing politicians instead of administrators, pointing out that many politicians often buy their way into office to serve personal interests rather than the needs of the people.

"A good leader listens. A leader who cannot listen to the people is not fit to lead," he remarked, adding that Kenya is riddled with political drama that distracts from meaningful service delivery.
He further criticized political parties, accusing many of being vehicles for the highest bidder rather than platforms for quality leadership. “Political parties have become personal businesses. If you have money—even with poor leadership qualities—you can still get the party ticket,” he noted, warning that tribal-based politics is still undermining the country’s democratic growth.

Hon. Kilonzo also hailed the rise of the Gen Z movement, terming it an unstoppable revolution. He urged current and aspiring leaders to shift their approach and begin engaging Kenyans more meaningfully, especially the youth, who he said are now more informed than many leaders.

He emphasized the importance of long-term empowerment over temporary handouts. “Let’s not just give people fish for a day. Let’s teach them how to fish for life,” he stated.
He also called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to be professional, transparent, and reform-minded ahead of 2027, urging the institution to break away from the patterns of past electoral commissions.

"Let us all aspire to make Kenya better for all of us. It starts with electing people who care, who lead by example, and who can be emulated," concluded Hon. Kilonzo.
