IPOA Launches Probe into Alleged Police Attack on Former Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka in Ngonda Chaos

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into serious incident where Former Machakos Town MP Dr. Victor Munyaka says that armed group of like 10 armed officers violently attacked him and his driver during the recent political chaos in Ngonda, Murang’a County.

Speaking at a press briefing in Machakos on this evening, Munyaka described the incident as a calculated and brutal attack that nearly cost him his life. According to the former legislator, the armed men smashed his Range Rover, inflicting damages estimated at Sh2 million, and then proceeded to threaten him with death.

“They told me and my driver to shout the slogan ‘Tutam’ or they would kill us,” Munyaka revealed. “It was not just a confrontation — it was an attempted assassination, a clear message that no one is safe if they hold a different opinion.”

He further recounted the terrifying moments when the officers, surrounded his vehicle and began shoting Carelesly. The former MP says he was left in shock and disbelief, accusing the state of using law enforcement as a tool of intimidation.

“I never imagined that I, a former MP, could be targeted so ruthlessly by those meant to protect us. What about the ordinary Kenyan?” he posed.

Munyaka announced that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), in collaboration with the Inspector General of Police, have today officially begun investigating the matter. He said a team from IPOA has already been dispatched to assess the scene and take statements.

“I have already spoken to IPOA, and they have assured me that they are taking this matter seriously. A team is on the ground as we speak. I want justice, not just for me but for anyone who might be targeted next.”

The former MP used the opportunity to condemn the broader trend of political intolerance and suppression of dissent. He claimed that those who do not align themselves with the ruling faction are being marked and intimidated.

“This country is quickly turning into a police state. We are being told to either conform or be crushed. That is not democracy — that is dictatorship in action.”

In a bold political statement, Munyaka took aim at President William Ruto’s leadership, suggesting that the country’s current trajectory is dangerous.

“We must pray for President Ruto to finish his one term peacefully and go home. If this is what leadership looks like under his administration, then we are in serious trouble.”

Munyaka called on human rights bodies, religious leaders, and the international community to closely monitor what he described as a dangerous escalation of state-sponsored violence and intimidation.

The alleged incident has sparked outrage across social media, with Kenyans demanding justice and transparency. If confirmed, it could become one of the most high-profile cases of police misconduct under the current administration.
