PRINCIPAL MUTETI MWANZI LEADS KANGUNDO HIGH TO NEW HEIGHTS

Kangundo High School, one of Machakos County’s most iconic learning institutions, is writing a new chapter of success and revival. Once hailed as a breeding ground for national leaders and professionals, the school had seen its academic shine dim over the years — but today, the giant is rising again.

The journey to restore its glory began five years ago with a clear vision: rebuild discipline, uplift academic standards, and reawaken the Mighty Kangundo Spirit. This mission has been steered with passion and precision under the stewardship of Principal Mr. Muteti Mwanzi, a leader known for his firm hand, visionary leadership, and unwavering belief in excellence.

A Rich Legacy

Kangundo High’s history reads like a hall of fame. Its alumni list boasts the late Francis Nyenze, former MP and Minority Leader in the National Assembly; Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe; the late Dr. Wahome Gakuru, former Nyeri Governor; Archbishop Anthony Muheria of Nyeri Archdiocese; and Dr. James Mwangi, CEO and Group Managing Director of Equity Bank. These towering figures stand as proof of the school’s tradition of nurturing leaders who leave a mark on Kenya’s history.

The Turnaround

When Mr. Mwanzi took the helm, the school was grappling with falling grades, wavering discipline, and low morale. His approach was swift and systematic:

  • Academic Overhaul: Introduced structured revision programs, strengthened subject departments, and reintroduced a competitive learning culture.
  • Discipline First: Reinforced a code of conduct rooted in respect, responsibility, and hard work, restoring order in the school community.
  • Infrastructure Development: Spearheaded the renovation of classrooms, science laboratories, dormitories, and the library, creating a more conducive learning environment.
  • Mentorship Culture: Brought in alumni and professionals to mentor students, inspiring them with real-life success stories and career guidance.
Results that Speak

Each year since the revival began, Kangundo High has posted steady improvement in KCSE performance, with more students qualifying for university admission and competitive courses. The school has also regained its dominance in co-curricular activities, excelling in drama, debate, and sports.

The Mighty Spirit is Back

The renewed energy has spread beyond academics. Students now carry themselves with confidence, teachers are more motivated, and alumni have reconnected with a renewed sense of loyalty. The once-faded pride is now blazing bright.

Locals proudly say the “Mighty Kangundo Spirit” is alive and unstoppable — and in the near future, Kangundo High might give Misyani Girls, another regional academic giant, a serious run for its money.

With the momentum building, the community united, and a principal who blends discipline with vision, Kangundo High is not just reclaiming its past glory — it is setting the stage for a golden era that will inspire generations to come.
