Speaking on Saturday at the Eastern Kenya Integrated College in Mitaboni, Machakos County, the President said Kenya belongs to all its citizens, and government programmes and policies will be implemented equitably across the nation. He emphasized that the government is committed to delivering affordable housing, fresh produce markets, health services, and improved education opportunities to the people of Ukambani.
President Ruto disclosed that KSh45 billion has been set aside for the construction of affordable housing, modern markets, and student hostels in Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui counties. In addition, he said a further KSh5.5 billion has been allocated to road projects in the region, with another KSh5.5 billion dedicated to electricity connections to ensure inclusive development.The Head of State highlighted irrigation as the “next frontier” in agricultural transformation, noting that Ukambani has vast arable land with untapped potential. He pointed out that the Thwake Dam, which is nearing completion, will be a game changer in revolutionizing agriculture through irrigation, thereby improving food security and productivity in the region.

On education, President Ruto underscored the government’s investments in Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), technical institutions, and higher education. He said education is the great equalizer, adding that adequate funding will continue to be directed to the sector to ensure Kenya’s youth, whom he termed the country’s greatest asset, are well equipped for the future.The President also revealed that KSh800 million has been committed to the ongoing construction of Kitui Stadium, which will host this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 20. He said other road projects in and around Kitui town are also underway, reflecting the government’s resolve to spread development evenly across the country.
Leaders present at the event included Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda, Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule, Masinga MP Joshua Mwalyo, Kangundo MP Fabian Muli, former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, alongside MCAs and other county leaders. Dr. Mutua urged the people of Ukambani to rally behind the government, praising President Ruto for making bold decisions that have stabilized the country’s economy.
