A wave of transformation is sweeping across Kitui County as the newly reconstructed
Kitui Airstrip officially opens its runway to opportunity, symbolizing renewed hope and progress for the people of Eastern Kenya. At the center of this milestone stands
Hon. Teresia Mbaika, the
Principal Secretary for the State Department of Aviation and Aerospace Development, whose visionary leadership and commitment to service have brought this long-awaited project to life.
Under the Leadership of President William Ruto and the Execution of PS Teresia Mbaika, the State Department has worked tirelessly to ensure that aviation development is not confined to major cities alone but extended to regions that have for years remained underserved. The Kitui Airstrip’s completion is now being hailed as a flagship success story—one that demonstrates how effective leadership can bridge gaps, stimulate growth, and directly improve lives at the grassroots.
Developed by the
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) under the supervision of the State Department of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the airstrip features a
950-metre-long, 15-metre-wide runway with a
30-metre safety strip, designed to accommodate light aircraft and enhance operational safety. The
apron has been fully completed and marked, enabling smooth aircraft movement, while the
parking area, driveway, and terminal building are advancing steadily toward completion. Washrooms and other passenger amenities are already ready for use — a testament to the project’s progress and attention to detail.
The upgraded facility officially played host to
H.E. President William Ruto, senior government officials, and dignitaries during this year’s
Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitui — a historic moment that underscored the airstrip’s strategic importance. It now stands as a model of how targeted infrastructure can elevate regional development, boost trade, and enhance accessibility.
Local residents have praised
PS Teresia Mbaika for her tireless dedication, describing her as a “visionary daughter of Ukambani” who has not only delivered on promises but redefined what public service can achieve. “We are proud of her,” said a Kitui resident. “For years we hoped for this project to take off, and now it has happened under her leadership. She has brought pride and progress to our region.”
Beyond Kitui, PS Mbaika’s influence is being felt nationwide. Her tenure has been marked by a clear strategy to accelerate aviation projects, ensure accountability in delivery, and expand Kenya’s network of regional airstrips to drive economic inclusion. Under her guidance, the State Department has become a symbol of efficiency and innovation—focused on turning infrastructure into engines of opportunity.
As the first aircraft touch down on the newly paved runway, the
Kitui Airstrip stands as more than a transport hub—it is a living legacy of determination, teamwork, and transformative leadership. For the people of Ukambani, it marks a new dawn of connectivity, tourism, and business growth, powered by the steadfast leadership of
Hon. Teresia Mbaika, a true champion of progress.
President William Ruto is truly delivering big to the great people of Ukambani and Kenya at large without Sidelining a certain region.
