Machakos Deputy Governor Hon. Francis Mwangangi has called on the national government and key stakeholders to urgently implement reforms within the National Police Service aimed at improving officers’ welfare, working conditions, and overall service delivery to Kenyans.
Speaking during an end-year engagement with officers serving in Kalama Sub-County, Hon. Mwangangi said police officers continue to operate under extremely difficult circumstances despite carrying the heavy responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.
“Our officers serve under very challenging conditions, yet they remain committed to protecting Kenyans. It is our collective duty to ensure their work is dignified through meaningful reforms,” said the Deputy Governor.
He emphasized that improving the welfare of police officers—through better equipment, housing, psychosocial support, and fair remuneration—would directly enhance public trust, professionalism, and security outcomes.
Hon. Mwangangi further reaffirmed the County Government of Machakos’ commitment to collaboration with the National Police Service, noting that effective security is anchored on cooperation between national agencies, county leadership, and local communities.
He urged stakeholders to view police reforms not as a political issue but as a national responsibility that affects economic growth, social cohesion, and the safety of citizens.
The Deputy Governor also commended officers serving in Kalama Sub-County for their dedication and resilience, wishing them well as they continue to discharge their duties to the Kenyan people.
The remarks were made during the National Police Service end-year engagement held at Konza Police Station grounds, led by Kalama Sub-County Police Commander Mr. Patrick Getirira.
