PS Teresia Mbaika Hosts Kenya Airways Management, Reaffirms Government Support for Airline’s Turnaround

Principal Secretary for the State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development,  Teresia Mbaika, received the Kenya Airways management team led by Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. George Kamal for a courtesy call at her office, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the national carrier’s recovery and long-term sustainability.

During the meeting, the Kenya Airways leadership briefed the Principal Secretary on the airline’s key strategic priorities, ongoing operational reforms, and critical areas where government support is required to enhance performance and competitiveness in a highly dynamic global aviation industry. The discussions also focused on the airline’s turnaround strategy, cost efficiency measures, fleet optimization, and market expansion plans.

Teresia Mbaika challenged the airline’s leadership to continuously pursue innovative and practical solutions aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening competitiveness, and steering Kenya Airways back to sustained profitability. She emphasized the importance of sound corporate governance, prudent financial management, and customer-focused service delivery as key pillars for the airline’s success.

“The government remains keen on seeing Kenya Airways regain its strong footing as a profitable and competitive carrier. Innovation, efficiency, and strategic partnerships will be critical in achieving this goal,” the Principal Secretary noted.

She reiterated that Kenya Airways is a strategic national asset and a vital driver of the country’s economic growth, tourism, trade, and regional connectivity. As the national flag carrier, the airline plays a crucial role in positioning Kenya as a regional aviation hub and linking the country to global markets.

Kenya Airways, popularly known as “The Pride of Africa,” continues to serve as a symbol of national pride, flying the Kenyan flag across continents and reinforcing the country’s presence on the global stage. The government, Ms. Mbaika affirmed, will continue to work closely with the airline’s management and other stakeholders to ensure a stable, competitive, and sustainable future for the carrier.
