Construction of the Emali–Ukia Road in Kibwezi West Constituency is steadily progressing, with key works currently underway as the government moves to improve connectivity and unlock economic growth in the region.
According to an update shared by Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Hon. Mwengi Mutuse, OGW, stabilization works using cement are ongoing from Kilometre 4 towards Nduundune Market in preparation for the laying of Asphalt Concrete (AC), commonly known as tarmac. At the same time, earthworks are continuing up to KM 8, while drainage construction is also ongoing along the entire stretch beginning from Emali Town.
The MP noted that the project remains on schedule in line with the agreed contract timelines and is being implemented under the highest engineering standards to ensure durability and quality infrastructure for residents. Once complete, the road is expected to significantly ease transport, boost trade activities, and improve access to markets and essential services across the region.
Hon. Mutuse further expressed confidence that the road construction will have reached Matiliku on or before September 2027, marking a major milestone in the implementation of the project. He also revealed that efforts are already underway to secure additional resources for Phase Two of the road project, which will extend construction from Matiliku to Ukia.
The ongoing works have been hailed as a clear demonstration of practical and people-centered leadership focused on delivering tangible development projects. Residents and local leaders have welcomed the progress, terming the road project a transformative investment that will greatly benefit communities in Kibwezi West and neighboring areas for generations to come.
