The County Government of Machakos has unveiled a Sh.14.255 Billion 2024/2025 Budget Statement which lays more emphasis on rehabilitation and construction of roads damaged by recent El-nino floods.
In the budget pronouncements made by County Executive Committee Member in charge of Finance, Economic Planning, Revenue Management, Public Communication and ICT Mr. Onesmus Kuyu at the County Assembly on Thursday,the County allocated Sh1.029 billion to Infrastructural development, which was the highest departmental allocation.
"Following the recent heavy rains that wrecked havoc across the country, most roads are in dire need of rehabilitation. It is on this basis that a total of Ksh.1.029 billion has been proposed to support rehabilitation of roads and accommodate seamless progression of phase 2 of tarmacking roads,"said Mr Kuyu.
So far, tarmacking of four roads is ongoing.
The Health sector which traditionally receives the lion share was allocated Sh.522.7 Million, while water, sanitation and sewerage received 123.91 Million with food security being allocated Sh510 Million.
Agriculture was allocated Sh122.8 Million.
Environment and Climate change, Education ,Sports and Culture sectors received Sh284.3 Million and Sh.86.7, Million, respectively while Sh209 Million went to Trade.
Sh91.5 Million was set aside for empowering youth, women, People Living with Disabilities and the vulnerable allocated Sh259.5 Million respectively. This includes Sh120 Million bursary allocation.
