Governor Wavinya Ndeti Calls for Stronger Police-Community Relations to Combat Crime

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti today joined disciplined forces for a Thanksgiving prayer service held at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral in Machakos Town. The event, attended by local security personnel, government officials, and members of the public, aimed to strengthen the bond between the security agencies and the community.

In her address to the media, Governor Ndeti underscored the critical need for enhanced interaction between law enforcement and the public to tackle the rising crime rates in the region. She pointed out that fostering trust and cooperation between the police and the community would lead to more effective crime prevention and resolution.
“The relationship between the police and wananchi is essential in maintaining law and order. Our communities should view security agencies as partners, not adversaries. By working together, we can ensure a safer and more secure Machakos,” Governor Ndeti said.

She added that proactive engagement, such as community policing initiatives, would not only help curb crime but also improve the perception of the police, encouraging citizens to report incidents without fear of retaliation. The governor also assured the disciplined forces of the county government's continued support.
Machakos Deputy County Commissioner David Rotich echoed Governor Ndeti’s message, urging residents to support the police in carrying out their duties. He emphasized that security is a shared responsibility, and the public’s cooperation is crucial for the police to function effectively.

“We rely on the public’s partnership in maintaining peace and security. It is important for everyone to be vigilant and work hand in hand with our officers,” Rotich stated.
The Thanksgiving prayers, which included representatives from the police service, prison wardens, and other security agencies, aimed to provide a moment of reflection and to seek divine guidance for the disciplined forces as they continue their mission to protect the county. The event also served as an opportunity for the security forces to engage with the public and strengthen community ties.

The governor concluded by reiterating her administration’s commitment to improving security infrastructure and ensuring that the police have the resources they need to fulfill their mandate efficiently.
