Machakos County Government, under the leadership of Governor Wavinya Ndeti and Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi Kilonzo, hosted thousands of Muslims for a grand Iftar dinner at the White House grounds on Friday evening.
The event, a significant gesture of unity and inclusivity, saw the county leadership reaffirm its commitment to supporting the Muslim community. Governor Wavinya took the opportunity to extend early wishes for Idd-ul-Fitr, as Muslims approach the final days of Ramadhan.
“As you navigate the final stretch of Ramadhan, let me take this early opportunity to wish you a happy Idd-Ul-Fitr,” she said.
Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi commended the Muslim faithful for their unwavering commitment to their faith, stating that their dedication serves as an inspiration to the entire county.
“Their commitment to faith inspires us all, and we appreciate their support in the growth and development of our county. May the Lord accept their prayers and good deeds during this period,” he remarked.
Governor Wavinya urged the Muslim community to remain steadfast in faith and embrace love and unity. She emphasized her administration’s continued support for the community, acknowledging their contributions to the county's progress.
However, she also used the occasion to hit out at critics of her government, warning those allegedly sponsoring protests over poor roads.
“Those destabilizing the county’s growth with cheap politics are warned. Their days are numbered,” she said.
Deputy Governor Mwangangi called upon all Machakos residents to embrace the spirit of sharing and faith during this holy period. He further encouraged them to plant trees during the ongoing rainy season to combat climate change and ensure a greener Machakos.
The high-profile event was attended by top county officials, religious leaders, and key Muslim stakeholders.
Since her election, Governor Wavinya has remained consistent in organizing Iftar dinners as a way of fostering unity and strengthening ties with the Muslim community in Machakos.
