A section of Matungulu Constituency residents have lashed out at their Member of Parliament, Hon. Stephen Mutinda Mule, accusing him of neglecting key development projects and instead engaging in local political battles.
The residents, addressing the media, expressed their frustrations, stating that the MP has abandoned his core duties and is instead focused on fighting other elected leaders, including Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti. They called on him to stop unnecessary political wars and instead prioritize service delivery.
POOR ROAD NETWORKOne of the major grievances raised by the residents is the poor state of infrastructure in the constituency. Key roads, they said, have been left unattended, making transportation difficult.
They specifically mentioned the Tala-Donyo Sabuk road, which is in a deplorable state due to lack of maintenance. They also lamented the neglect of the Kyeleni-Donyo Sabuk road, which has remained in bad condition for years despite numerous complaints. Additionally, residents decried the failure to open up the Tala High-Syanthi road, which has forced many to use alternative poor roads, increasing transport costs and causing unnecessary delays.
"We have raised these issues severally, but our MP seems to have other priorities. Tala town, being a major commercial hub, needs proper infrastructure, but what we see is total neglect," said a resident.
UNCLEAR BURSARY DISTRIBUTIONApart from poor roads, the residents also raised concerns over the issuance of bursaries, which they claimed is marred by favoritism and a lack of transparency. They alleged that only a few selected individuals benefit from the bursary program while many deserving students are left out.
"We don’t understand how the bursaries are being issued. Some parents apply year after year but never get anything, yet others seem to benefit repeatedly. We need fairness in the process," another resident complained.
POLITICAL INFIGHTING
The residents further accused Hon. Mule of engaging in unnecessary political fights, particularly with Governor Wavinya Ndeti. They called on him to end the ongoing wrangles and instead seek dialogue for the betterment of Matungulu and Machakos County at large.
"We want our MP to work with the Governor, not against her. His fights with Wavinya are not helping us. Instead of wasting time on politics, he should focus on development," said a community leader.
CALL FOR ACTION
The disgruntled residents have now vowed to push for accountability, stating that they will not allow their constituency to lag behind due to political games. They urged Hon. Mule to listen to their concerns and address them urgently.
Efforts to get a response from the MP were unsuccessful by the time of publishing this story
