In a show of solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan, Machakos County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) Dr. Consolata Mutisya (Education) and Catherine Mutanu (Agriculture), alongside Chief Officer for Gender and Social Welfare Bernadette Wavinya, partnered with Bhachu Industries to distribute food to the Muslim community in Mlolongo.
The event, held at Jamia Mosque in Mlolongo, saw hundreds of families receive essential food supplies, including rice, sugar, cooking oil, flour, and other household necessities. The initiative aimed to support Muslim families as they observe the holy month, ensuring they have access to adequate meals for Iftar and Suhoor.
Bhachu Industries donated the food items as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts. Speaking at the event, Mr. Sheriff emphasized the company’s dedication to giving back to the community, particularly during significant religious occasions. He reiterated Bhachu Industries’ commitment to working with local authorities to uplift vulnerable groups.
Dr. Mutisya reaffirmed the county government’s dedication to inclusivity and social welfare, urging more organizations and well-wishers to collaborate in humanitarian efforts. “Ramadan is a time of prayer, reflection, and giving. As a government, we stand with our Muslim brothers and sisters in ensuring they have the support they need,” she said.
Catherine Mutanu underscored the importance of food security, stating that such public-private partnerships are crucial in addressing hunger and improving livelihoods. “No one should struggle to find food, especially during a sacred period like Ramadan. We appreciate Bhachu Industries for stepping in to help,” she remarked.
Chief Officer Bernadette Wavinya emphasized the need for unity and compassion, noting that the county government would continue advocating for the welfare of all residents, regardless of their religious background. She encouraged other corporate entities and individuals to emulate Bhachu Industries’ generosity.
Religious leaders from Jamia Mosque thanked the county officials and Bhachu Industries for their generosity. Sheikh Abdullahi Mohamed, a senior cleric at the mosque, lauded the initiative, saying, “This act of kindness embodies the true spirit of Ramadan. We appreciate the county government and Bhachu Industries for remembering us.”
Grateful beneficiaries expressed their appreciation, stating that the donations would significantly ease their Ramadan observance. Many acknowledged that economic hardships have made it difficult for some families to afford basic necessities, and such support was timely.
The leaders called for continued generosity and community support throughout the holy month, urging residents to embrace the spirit of giving and caring for one another. They also assured the Muslim community of continued collaboration and engagement to address their needs beyond Ramadan.
