The Hindu community in Machakos County is gearing up for a historic moment as they prepare to officially open the newly constructed Hindu Sanatan Temple in Machakos Town on Sunday, April 6th, 2025, in what promises to be a grand, colourful, and spiritual celebration.
Addressing members of the press today Saturday during final preparations at the temple grounds, Satheesh Nair, the Chairperson of the Hindu Community in Machakos, confirmed that all arrangements for the event have been finalized.
“We are very excited and humbled to be part of this milestone. All is set for tomorrow’s big day, and we are expecting a large turnout,” said Nair.
The Chief Guest for the event will be none other than the High Commissioner of India to Kenya, highlighting the significance of the temple within both the local and international Hindu community. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM and will run until 4:00 PM, featuring traditional rituals, prayers, cultural performances, and blessings.
Nair noted that the new temple will not only serve the Hindu population in Machakos Town but will also cater to devotees from across Makueni and Kitui counties.
“This temple is a place of worship and unity for Hindus across the Lower Eastern region. It replaces our old prayer hall, which was built in 1958. That space served us for decades, and now it is time for a new chapter,” he added.
According to organizers, the ceremony is expected to draw over 1,500 people, including dignitaries, religious leaders, local residents, and members of the Hindu diaspora in Kenya.
“We welcome all Hindus from across the country to join us in this spiritual celebration. It will be a moment of joy, reflection, and divine connection,” organizer of the ceremony noted
The event will also feature traditional Hindu rituals led by spiritual leaders from Nairobi and Mombasa, cultural dances, music, and a special community feast (prasad).
The opening of the Hindu Sanatan Temple marks a significant development in the religious and cultural landscape of Machakos, offering a permanent sanctuary for worship, education, and community service.
