Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has dismissed claims that he is secretly supporting MCAs opposing the impeachment of County Assembly Speaker Ann Kiusya.
Addressing the matter this evening at his office, Mwangangi made it clear that neither him nor Governor Wavinya Ndeti is involved in the assembly’s internal disputes. He emphasized that their focus is on fostering unity and delivering development projects to benefit the people of Machakos.
“I want to make it clear that Governor Wavinya and I have no role in the impeachment process. We want a united leadership that works for the people instead of engaging in endless political fights,” Mwangangi stated.
His remarks follow allegations by Mbiuni Ward MCA Peter Kilonzo, alias PK, who had thanked Mwangangi for what he claimed was his silent support in defending the speaker. However, the deputy governor denied these claims, saying he had chosen to remain neutral after being advised to stay away from the matter by some MCAs.
Meanwhile, Speaker Ann Kiusya has moved to court and successfully obtained an order stopping the impeachment motion, which was being spearheaded by Majority Leader Nicholas Nzioka, alias Wangondi. The motion has caused deep divisions within the county assembly, with rival factions taking firm positions on the matter.
