Machakos Deputy Governor Hon. Francis Mwangangi has sharply criticized the recent State House meeting involving Kamba leaders, dismissing it as a politically motivated gathering that lacked clear development outcomes for the region.
Speaking during a live debate on Mutongoi TV, Hon. Mwangangi said the meeting failed to capture the real needs and aspirations of the Ukambani people, instead serving narrow political interests.
“The State House visit was more of a political affair than a genuine development engagement. Such meetings must follow the right channels and include key stakeholders if they are to bear meaningful outcomes,” he stated.
He accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of undermining devolution, citing persistent delays in the disbursement of county funds which he says have paralyzed service delivery at the grassroots level.
“The Kenya Kwanza administration continues to be the biggest threat to devolution. Counties are struggling to provide basic services because the national government is holding back funds,” Mwangangi lamented.
The Deputy Governor further warned that the retrogressive policies being pushed by the current regime could reverse the gains made since the introduction of devolution, and cautioned against the rising public mistrust in the presidency and public institutions.
“The lack of trust in the presidency and key public institutions is worrying. It sends the wrong signal not just to Kenyans but to the international community,” he added.
Hon. Mwangangi urged national leaders to engage in more structured, inclusive, and transparent dialogue with regions, rather than resorting to political symbolism that does little to improve lives.
