The Budget and Appropriations Committee, in its ongoing efforts to ensure inclusive development, held a robust public participation forum in Makindu town to gather views from Makueni County residents on the 2025/26 national budget.
The forum, presided over by Hon. Mwengi Mutuse, OGW, MP for Kibwezi West and a key member of the Budget Committee, was led by Hon. Jematiah Sergon, the Women Representative for Baringo County. The meeting was also attended by several other lawmakers, including Hon. Eng. Thaddeus Nzambia.
In his address, Hon. Mutuse emphasized the government's commitment to integrating citizens' views into the national budget planning process. He announced that Makueni County has been allocated over KSh 8 billion in the upcoming financial year, with more than KSh 1.9 billion earmarked for the completion of the Thwake Dam project.
“Today’s participation was a testament to the people’s understanding of their developmental needs,” said Hon. Mutuse. “The calls to tarmac the Emali–Ukia road came out strongly as a top priority, alongside critical concerns in water access, education, roads, housing, and land titling. We have carefully listened and will work to ensure these priorities are reflected in the final budget.”
The forum, which attracted residents from across the county, offered a platform for the public to voice their challenges and propose solutions tailored to local contexts.
Hon. Mutuse extended his gratitude to the people of Makueni for their active participation and well-articulated submissions. “Asanteni sana, people of Makueni, for your wonderful contributions,” he said. “I was very pleased with the clarity and unity in outlining key development needs. May God bless us all.”
The public participation forums continue to be a cornerstone of Kenya’s participatory budgeting approach, ensuring that every region’s voice is heard and represented in national development plans.
