Mavoko Member of Parliament, Hon. Patrick Makau King’ola, CBS, has issued a strong condemnation against the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers for allegedly harassing residents of Njuguini Estate with threats of eviction and demolition.
In a firm statement, the legislator decried the issuance of eviction notices by KMC and KDF, purportedly backed by court orders. He described the move as unlawful and insensitive, especially given the history of the land and the critical role played by the community in safeguarding KMC property during its years of dormancy.
"Let me remind KMC and the authorities—when KMC was shut down for years, it was the people who safeguarded its assets. Now, they deserve respect, not threats," said Hon. Makau.
The MP emphasized that the residents of Njuguini are not squatters, but legal allottees who acquired their land through a legitimate process under the then Mavoko Urban Council—a practice that was commonplace in many urban areas across the country.
"If any dispute exists, it should be addressed between KMC and the issuing authority, not the innocent residents," he added.
Describing the situation as a blatant case of historical land injustice, Hon. Makau warned against the continued targeting of locals without adherence to due process or meaningful dialogue.
"This is a clear case of historical land injustice and we cannot and will not accept the continued destruction of lives, homes and livelihoods without due process or dialogue," he stated.
The MP called on residents to remain calm and assured them of his commitment to engage relevant government agencies to resolve the matter amicably.
"Justice must prevail. Respect must be given," he concluded.
The developing standoff has ignited widespread concern in Mavoko and beyond, with human rights defenders and community leaders closely watching the government's next steps. #radatvnews #radatvkenya #radatvupdates #trendingpost
