Tensions are said to be brewing between three camps—one aligned with CS Dr. Alfred Mutua, the other backing Mwala MP Hon. Vincent Musyoka Kawaya and the other one backing Kibwezi west MP Mwengi Mutuse. The groups had been tasked with identifying government projects that the President could commission during his visit. However, the exercise reportedly stalled after it emerged that there are hardly any new or completed projects in the region to present.
Most of the few projects initiated by past administrations remain unfinished, allegedly due to underfunding or the diversion of resources to other areas—raising questions about the government's commitment to Ukambani, even after the controversial ouster of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. With little to show on the ground, President Ruto is now expected to summon UDA and Kenya Kwanza leaders from Ukambani for a State House meeting. The aim will be to realign the political messaging and re-evaluate strategies for engaging a region increasingly skeptical of the government’s pledges.
New dates for the President’s tour will be announced in the coming days.
