The project, delivered in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Kenya, has seen the construction of permanent, decent homes for families who previously lived in substandard shelters. Governor Wavinya described the initiative as a life-changing milestone for the residents of Matungulu North.
“This is a dream come true for many families,” said Governor Wavinya. “I am proud that today, men, women, and children who once struggled in makeshift structures can now sleep under a solid roof, with dignity and peace of mind.”The Governor commended Habitat for Humanity Kenya for their unwavering partnership and shared commitment to improving the lives of ordinary Kenyans through safe and affordable housing.
“Partnerships like these demonstrate that when government and development partners work together, real change happens on the ground,” she noted. “We are not just building houses; we are restoring hope and dignity.”
Several beneficiaries were present during the event and could not hide their joy as they received the keys to their new homes. Mary Wanza, one of the recipients, emotionally thanked the Governor and Habitat for Humanity, saying, “I never thought I would live in a permanent house. This is a blessing to my family.”The Governor emphasized that her administration remains focused on inclusive development and will continue prioritizing programs that touch the grassroots.
“As a government, our goal is to ensure that no family is left behind. Decent housing is a basic right, and we shall continue working to see that every Machakos resident lives in dignity,” Wavinya affirmed.
The Matungulu North Ward Housing Project is among several housing initiatives being rolled out across Machakos County to address rural poverty and improve quality of life through decent shelter.
