Hon. Kawaya made the remarks on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the ongoing works at the Mbiuni Sports Academy in Mbiuni Ward. He expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that the project is on track to transform the sporting landscape of Mwala and beyond.
The modern sports academy will feature a fully-equipped running track, a standard football pitch, a volleyball court, spacious changing rooms, clean and accessible washrooms, a well-designed driveway, ample parking facilities, and a comprehensive foul water drainage system. These amenities, Hon. Kawaya said, will ensure that athletes train in a safe, comfortable, and professional environment.“This project is more than just infrastructure — it is an investment in our people. It will give our youth an opportunity to sharpen their sporting skills, keep them engaged in productive activities, and open doors to both local and international competitions,” the MP stated.
Beyond sports, the facility is expected to become a hub for community events, cultural festivals, and economic activity. Traders, service providers, and local businesses are set to benefit from increased visitors during tournaments and events, while young athletes will have a platform to showcase their skills to scouts and sponsors.Hon. Kawaya also emphasized that the sports academy will contribute to promoting healthy lifestyles, reducing crime, and building social cohesion by uniting people across different backgrounds through sports.
“This is the Kenya Kwanza dream in action — empowering our people at the grassroots, creating opportunities, and building a better future for our children,” he added.
The Mbiuni Sports Academy project underscores the government’s broader commitment to developing sports infrastructure nationwide, aligning with its vision to make Kenya a regional sporting powerhouse.
