Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to inclusivity by leading a major distribution of assistive devices and bursaries to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the county. The move, she said, was aimed at ensuring dignity, independence, and opportunity for all vulnerable groups.
In an event at Machakos Social Hall, the Governor oversaw the delivery of 74 wheelchairs, including specialized ones for children living with cerebral palsy. In addition, her government provided 50 white canes, 50 crutches, 36 walking frames, and 50 walking canes, directly improving mobility and independence for hundreds of beneficiaries.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti emphasized that inclusivity in Machakos is more than political rhetoric. “Inclusion in Machakos is not just talk, it is action,” she declared, assuring PWDs that they remain a top priority in her leadership agenda.
Education support has also seen a remarkable boost under her administration. Bursaries allocated to PWD students have grown significantly from 176 beneficiaries in the financial year 2022/2023, worth Kshs. 670,000, to 256 beneficiaries in FY 2023/2024, worth Kshs. 875,000. This year, the number has skyrocketed to 1,041 students, with bursaries valued at Kshs. 4.4 million.
“This increase in educational support demonstrates our government’s resolve to empower PWDs not only through healthcare but also through access to education and opportunities for a better future,” Governor Ndeti said.
She further pledged to scale up healthcare services and economic empowerment programs for PWDs, pointing out that her administration recognizes their potential and contribution to the county’s development.
Governor Ndeti concluded with a heartfelt assurance to the community: “You are not invisible. You are a priority, and I love you all.”
