Yatta residents are set to enjoy improved security and extended service delivery hours following the installation of solar-powered security lights across key public offices by area MP Hon. Robert Basil.
The new lights have been mounted at Katangi, Ikombe, Matuu, Kithimani, and Ndalani Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) offices. The initiative, part of Hon. Basil’s broader agenda to enhance community safety and efficiency in public service, is already being hailed as a game-changer for the constituency.
According to the MP, the project is aimed at reducing insecurity, boosting night-time visibility, and ensuring that government offices remain safe and accessible to residents even after dark. “Brighter nights mean safer communities. We are investing in modern solutions that guarantee both safety and service delivery for our people,” said Hon. Basil during the inspection of the installations.
Local residents have welcomed the move, noting that insecurity around public facilities, particularly at night, has been a recurring concern. Traders, boda boda operators, and residents living near the offices say the lights will deter crime, improve mobility, and encourage more economic activity in the evenings.
The solar-powered systems also align with clean energy goals, offering a sustainable and cost-effective solution to lighting challenges in rural and semi-urban centers. Community leaders lauded the MP for prioritizing both safety and environmental sustainability in his development agenda.
Hon. Basil has assured Yatta residents that this was just the beginning, promising to extend the lighting project to more villages, markets, and institutions. He emphasized that securing the constituency is a prerequisite to unlocking its full social and economic potential.
