Machakos County Devolution CECM Bishop Joel Nzomo has called on Kenyan drivers, matatu owners, and SACCO leadership to strictly adhere to traffic rules in a bid to curb the rising number of road accidents, especially during festive seasons.
Speaking to the media in Machakos after condoling victims of recent road accidents at Machakos Level 5 Hospital, Bishop Nzomo expressed deep concern over the increasing loss of lives on Kenyan roads. He noted that many of the accidents could be avoided if drivers chose to observe simple and well-established traffic regulations.
The CECM urged matatu owners and SACCO chairpersons to take responsibility by ensuring their drivers strictly comply with traffic laws, emphasizing that discipline on the roads must start with proper oversight and enforcement by transport operators.
“With schools preparing to reopen, many families will be travelling across the country. Drivers must exercise maximum caution because a single mistake can lead to unnecessary loss of innocent lives,” Nzomo warned.
He further appealed to drivers to be more careful, patient, and responsible on the roads, stressing that human life is precious and must be protected at all costs. Bishop Nzomo reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to promote road safety and reduce the carnage that continues to claim lives across the country.
