The people of Kyaitha in Machakos County have received a major boost following the successful completion of a bridge at Kyaimu Kyaitha, a transformative project spearheaded through the Office of the Machakos County Woman Representative, Hon. Joyce Kamene Kasimbi, under the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), in partnership with the Sand Dam Foundation.
The bridge, constructed through the Kyaitha Self Help Group, has significantly improved mobility and connectivity for residents who for years struggled to access neighboring areas, particularly Wamunyu and Katangi. Previously, residents faced serious challenges crossing the area, especially during rainy seasons, limiting access to markets, schools, health facilities, and social services.
Speaking on the milestone, Hon. Joyce Kamene Kasimbi noted that the project is a clear demonstration of how community-driven development, supported by strategic partnerships, can deliver lasting solutions to everyday challenges faced by wananchi.
“This bridge is more than just infrastructure. It is a symbol of opportunity, dignity, and progress for the people of Kyaitha. Through NGAAF and our partnership with the Sand Dam Foundation, we are committed to empowering communities with practical projects that directly improve livelihoods,” she said.
The Woman Representative lauded the residents of Kyaitha for their unity, cooperation, and selfless participation throughout the project’s implementation, emphasizing that their commitment was key to its success.
“The dedication, sacrifice, and teamwork shown by the Kyaitha community is commendable. Together, we have not only built a bridge but also strengthened the bonds of unity and shared progress,” Hon. Kasimbi added.
Residents welcomed the project, citing improved safety, reduced travel time, and enhanced access to economic and social opportunities.
The Kyaimu Kyaitha bridge now stands as a testament to people-centered leadership and collaborative development, reinforcing Hon. Joyce Kamene Kasimbi’s continued focus on grassroots empowerment across Machakos County.
