Yatta Member of Parliament Hon. Robert Basil is widely expected to secure re-election in the next general election, regardless of whether he runs on a party ticket or as an independent candidate, following his strong development record and deep-rooted grassroots support.
This is according to a Rada TV findings after an extensive public opinion engagement conducted across all wards in Yatta Constituency—Kithimani, Ndalani, Matuu, Ikombe and Katangi. The exercise captured views from residents, community leaders, youth groups, women representatives and local traders, the majority of whom expressed confidence in Basil’s leadership and performance.
Respondents across the five wards cited visible development projects as the main reason behind their continued support for the MP. In the education sector, Hon. Basil was praised for consistent bursary disbursement and support for school infrastructure, ensuring that vulnerable learners remain in school. Water projects, including boreholes and water supply systems, were also highlighted, particularly in areas that had long struggled with water scarcity.
Road infrastructure development across the constituency has enhanced mobility, opened up interior areas, and boosted local trade and agricultural activities.
Beyond physical development, the Rada TV findings indicate that Hon. Basil’s accessibility and hands-on leadership style have endeared him to many voters. Residents described him as a leader who frequently consults, listens, and remains present on the ground, regardless of political seasons.
Youth and women groups across Kithimani, Ndalani, Matuu, Ikombe and Katangi further acknowledged benefiting from empowerment initiatives, including support for small enterprises, skills development programs and facilitation to access government funds.
According to political analysts interviewed during the Rada TV engagement, Basil’s strong personal brand and development-focused leadership have positioned him above party politics, making his re-election prospects strong even in the event of shifting political alliances.
As the next general election approaches, the prevailing view from across Yatta Constituency is that voters are inclined to prioritize performance over party affiliation.
Based on Rada TV’s ward-by-ward findings, many residents believe Hon. Robert Basil remains the preferred choice to continue steering Yatta’s development agenda forward.
