Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reiterated her administration's commitment to youth empowerment, as she presided over the completion ceremony and award of certificates for the first cohort of the Machakos Youth Empowerment Program at Kyemutheke Vocational Training College.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Wavinya expressed her joy as a mother, having witnessed over 1,000 young people complete their training successfully.
"As a mother, I feel proud and fulfilled to have empowered this first group of our youth. This is a program that will continue to uplift more young people in our county," said Governor Wavinya.
She thanked the students for their commitment to learning and for not giving up along the way.
"I congratulate the over 1,000 youths for remaining focused and not dropping out. You have made us proud," she said.
The Governor also appreciated the trainers who mentored the youths through their various skill acquisition journeys.
"To our trainers, thank you for your dedication. You have played a key role in shaping the future of these young people," she added.
Following their recent examinations, she wished the beneficiaries success, expressing confidence in their performance.
"You will all pass. I believe in you," she told the cheering crowd.
Governor Wavinya further announced that each of the trainees will receive a start-up kit soon to help them apply their skills in the real world.
"These kits will help you hit the ground running. You are now ready to face the world," she affirmed.
She encouraged the youth to believe in themselves and not rely solely on white-collar jobs.
"It's not a must to be employed in an office for you to make good money. Use the skills you've gained to transform your lives and those of your families," said the Governor.
The county-wide exercise was also marked in the other five vocational training centers, where senior county officials represented the Governor. Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi was in Matuu, Lands CEC Nathaniel Nganga in Masii, Devolution CEC Bishop Nzomo in Mitaboni, and Agriculture CEC Catherine Mutanu in Katuluni.
Governor Wavinya was accompanied at the Kyemutheke event by Education CEC Dr. Consollata Mutisya.
The Machakos Youth Empowerment Program is a flagship initiative aimed at equipping young people with practical skills to boost self-employment and economic resilience
