Machakos Town Member of Parliament, Hon. Caleb Mule Mutiso, has today tabled a Public Petition in the National Assembly on behalf of the Machakos Matatu Owners Association (MAMOA), seeking justice for thousands of public transport operators affected by rogue insurance companies.
The petition highlights the prolonged suffering of operators due to the negligence of the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), which has allegedly failed to safeguard them from financial losses resulting from the refusal of certain insurers to honour legitimate accident claims.
Hon. Mule specifically cited companies such as Invesco, Amaco, and Directline for persistently declining to pay valid claims, leaving hardworking matatu owners and operators stranded and financially crippled. The petition seeks urgent intervention from Parliament to hold these insurers accountable and to compel IRA to enforce its regulatory mandate.
“This is a major step in demanding accountability, protecting livelihoods, and reinforcing the rule of law in the public transport sector,” Hon. Mule stated. “Our people deserve better. I will continue pushing until justice is served.”
The petition now awaits deliberation by the relevant parliamentary committee for further action.
