Machakos DG Francis Mwangangi Calls for Prayers, Media Respect, and a United Kenya

Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has called on the Church to remain a firm pillar of guidance and prayer in the country, urging Kenyans to reflect on the importance of unity, truth, and leadership rooted in integrity.

Speaking during the burial ceremony of the late Rev. Joseph Kiteng’e Nzola of JCC Mountain of Worship in Katelembu, Machakos County, Mwangangi delivered a passionate message to leaders, citizens, and members of the clergy.

“Kindly the Church, continue honestly and firmly keep on praying and guiding this country,” Mwangangi stated, urging religious institutions not to relent in their spiritual role especially during this time of political uncertainty and social unrest.

He also took a bold stand in defense of the media, amid rising concerns over interference and intimidation targeting journalists and media houses.

“The media is not here to entertain everything I say. The media is here to report the truth as it is. Let's respect media freedom and stop attacking media,” said Mwangangi, adding that a free press is the foundation of a healthy democracy.

Mwangangi further appealed for unity among Kenyans, reminding the nation of the peaceful and development-focused era under former President Mwai Kibaki.

“Let's pray for the unity of our country to help transform this country. We miss the times of Mwai Kibaki, when everything was running smoothly and we experienced good leadership,” he said.

The ceremony was marked by emotion, reflection, and calls for responsible leadership. It was attended by a host of prominent leaders including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K Leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, among many others.

The late Rev. Joseph Kiteng’e Nzola was remembered as a spiritual father, a pillar of the faith community, and a man who dedicated his life to service through the Church.

The gathering served not only as a moment of mourning but also as a platform for national reflection, as leaders from various political and religious backgrounds stood united in tribute and shared calls for peace, unity, and truth.
