KENYA SEEKS STRONGER TIES WITH U.S. TO ADVANCE EDUCATION, TECHNOLOGY, AND TALENT INNOVATION

Kenya is seeking to deepen its collaboration with the United States in education, technology, and the creative economy following high-level talks between Education Cabinet Secretary Hon. Julius Migosi Ogamba , Kenyan-born Minnesota legislator Hon. Huldah Momanyi and MCSK CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua. The meeting, held at Jogoo House in Nairobi, focused on creating structured partnerships aimed at empowering youth, promoting innovation, and strengthening cross-border academic and creative exchange.
Hon. Momanyi, who represents Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives, expressed her commitment to supporting Kenyan youth through global education and innovation linkages. She said her mission is to bridge opportunities between Kenyan institutions and international partners to help students access mentorship, scholarships, and skills development programs. “We are building a bridge of opportunity that connects Kenyan youth to global learning and innovation spaces,” she said.
The discussions centered on establishing joint exchange programs between Kenya and Minnesota-based institutions that would enhance education quality and expose students to new technologies and creative industries. Hon. Momanyi commended Kenya’s education reforms under CS Ogamba, noting that the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) provides an ideal platform for nurturing skills and innovation among learners.
Education CS Julius Ogamba welcomed the proposal, reaffirming the government’s commitment to transforming education into a driver of innovation and job creation. “Our education system must produce creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs, not just job seekers,” he said. Ogamba lauded Hon. Momanyi’s initiative, saying it aligns with Kenya’s vision to link education with emerging global opportunities in the creative and digital sectors.
In the meeting, was the Chief Executive Officer of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, MBS, who emphasized the importance of integrating creative arts into the education system. Dr. Mutua noted that the creative economy is a vital component of Kenya’s growth and should be nurtured through structured partnerships between government and private players. “The creative sector is not just entertainment — it is an engine for innovation, economic empowerment, and cultural identity,” he stated.
Dr. Mutua revealed that MCSK is collaborating with the Ministry of Education to expand arts programs in schools, enabling students to discover and develop their talents early. He said the partnership with Minnesota could open new doors for cultural exchange and creative entrepreneurship among Kenyan youth.

Mr. Solomon Omboto, CEO of Myogenic Africa Talent Academy, also attended the meeting and presented a proposal for mentorship programs targeting creative students and young innovators. He said his organization aims to empower learners with practical skills in digital entrepreneurship, music, and media production, creating sustainable livelihoods for youth across Kenya.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to formalize a Kenya–U.S. partnership framework that will promote innovation, education, and creative talent development. Both sides expressed optimism that the collaboration will redefine the future of education in Kenya and open global pathways for the next generation of leaders and innovators.
