Machakos Town Member of Parliament Hon. Caleb Mule has launched a comprehensive school feeding programme targeting all public primary and day secondary schools across the constituency, in a major move aimed at improving learner attendance, retention, and performance.
Speaking during the official rollout ceremony held at one of the local schools, Hon. Caleb Mule said the initiative seeks to ensure that no child misses school due to hunger, emphasizing that access to adequate nutrition is a key enabler of quality education. He noted that the programme will provide daily nutritious meals to thousands of learners, easing the burden on parents and creating a more conducive learning environment.
“A hungry child cannot concentrate or perform well in class. This feeding programme will not only keep our children in school but also improve their academic outcomes and overall well-being,” said the MP. “Education remains our greatest equalizer, and we must invest in it fully.”
He assured residents that every school within Machakos Town Constituency — both primary and day secondary — will benefit from the programme without discrimination.
The legislator underscored that the feeding programme aligns with the national government’s goal of achieving universal access to basic education and combating malnutrition among school-going children. He also urged parents and community members to support the effort by safeguarding food supplies and promoting transparency in its management.
“This is not just a government initiative; it is a community responsibility. When we work together, we can raise a healthy and educated generation that will build the future of Machakos,” Hon. Mule added.
Education stakeholders across the constituency lauded the move, describing it as a timely intervention that will reduce absenteeism and dropout rates, especially in schools located in low-income areas. The launch of the school feeding programme marks yet another milestone in Hon. Mule’s continued efforts to improve education standards and uplift the living conditions of his constituents.
