For decades, many families in villages such as Kalingile, Kanyongo, and surrounding areas have lived without power — a challenge that has affected education, business growth, and access to modern technology. The new electrification drive now promises to bridge that gap and empower households with reliable electricity for the first time.
According to the Office of Hon. Caleb Mule, more than 80 percent of households in Kalama Ward will benefit from the current phase of the project. MP Caleb Mule has been emphasizing that access to electricity is a fundamental driver of economic and social development, vowing to ensure that no home in Machakos Town Constituency remains in darkness.“This project goes beyond lighting homes — it’s about powering opportunities, enabling students to study, and supporting small businesses to thrive,”
Residents expressed excitement over the development, with many saying that having electricity will open new opportunities for education and income generation. For students, it means extended study hours and access to digital learning resources.Kalama Ward MCA Musyimi Maeke hailed the initiative, saying it would also improve security and reduce crime rates in previously dark and unsafe areas.“For a long time, darkness has contributed to insecurity in some villages. With the installation of power lines, we expect safer nights and a more vibrant community,” he said.
The rollout marks a major milestone in Hon. Mule’s broader vision for a fully connected and empowered Machakos Town Constituency — where every household has access to essential services that promote dignity, opportunity, and development.
