Principal Secretary for the State Department of Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika has emphasized the importance of a structured and consultative approach in evaluating applications seeking access to Kenya’s air transport market.
Speaking while chairing the first 2026 meeting of the Technical Evaluation Committee (TEC), PS Mbaika said the committee’s deliberations were focused on extending opportunities that will grow the aviation sector and the industries that depend on it, including tourism, trade, and agriculture.
She noted that the overarching goal of the process is to ensure Kenya fully realizes its economic potential through aviation, while at the same time safeguarding the country’s strategic interests in the sector and beyond.
PS Mbaika further stated that the TEC meetings are designed to promote fairness, transparency, and informed decision-making, anchored on a systematic and consultative evaluation of all applications in line with national priorities.
The Technical Evaluation Committee comprises representatives from Kenya Airways, the State Departments of Tourism, Trade, and Foreign Affairs, as well as the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), the Kenya Association of Air Operators (KAAO), and the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB).
