Principal Michael Mativo Steers Kitandi Secondary to Academic Success

Kitandi Secondary School in Kee Ward, Kaiti Constituency in Makueni County held a memorable Prize Giving Day earlier today, celebrating remarkable academic progress under the leadership of Principal Michael Mativo.

Since taking over in 2023, Principal Mativo has overseen a significant improvement in the school’s KCSE performance, with the mean score rising from 2.98 to 4.2. This achievement placed the school 14th in Kaiti Constituency and 102nd in Makueni County out of over 400 schools. With a new target of 5.1 for the upcoming exams, Mativo reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the institution and leaving a lasting impact.
"I am humbled by the hard work and unity displayed by our students, teachers, and parents. My mission is to transform Kitandi Secondary School and leave a legacy of excellence," said Principal Mativo.

During the event, he called for unity among parents, teachers, students, and all stakeholders, emphasizing that collective effort is key to continued success.

The occasion was graced by motivational speaker Charles Mutinda, a Chief Officer in Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s office, who shared valuable insights on academic performance. Inspired by a dedicated parent, he pledged to sponsor one student, demonstrating his belief in the power of education.

"Education is a game changer, and I believe in rewarding commitment. Seeing the sacrifice of some parents, I have decided to support one student’s education to ensure they achieve their dreams," said Mutinda.
He also encouraged class teachers to take full responsibility for student performance and discipline, saying:
"Principals should stop blaming students for poor performance and indiscipline. The first person to be questioned is the class teacher. If a student struggles, something is wrong somewhere."

Students and parents lauded Principal Mativo’s leadership.

"Our principal is not just a leader; he is a mentor and a game changer. He listens to us and pushes us to do our best," said one excited student.

A parent added, "Since Mr. Mativo took over, we have seen real progress. The school is improving, and we believe in his leadership."
The event, marked by joy and inspiration, reinforced the school’s guiding theme: "Walking in the Covenant of Transformation."

Founded in 1972, Kitandi Secondary School continues to rise, with Principal Mativo at the helm of its academic success.
