Isuzu EA Carried Out a Tree Planting Exercise At Muumandu Hills Forest In Machakos. Urges The Local Community To Not Only Plant More Trees But Also Nurture Them To Maturity

On Saturday 18th Nov, 2023, Isuzu EA carried out tree planting exercise at Muumandu Hills Forest in Machakos County in line with the government's initiative of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.

Speaking during the event at Muumandu Hills Forest, Dr.Michael Musyoka - Manager , Corporate Research and Sustainability, Isuzu EA asked Machakos People not only to plant more trees but also to ensure they take care of them to maturity. 

"We've seen and noticed that many a times, we only plant more trees and fail to take care of them to maturity. It is now the high time we practice differently to help mitigate climate change effects in our region. Let's take care of the trees we plant to maturity "- said Musyoka.

With the rains on, Musyoka asked locals to use the opportunity to plant as many trees as possible, for there is adequate natural water from the rains.

"We always cry that we don't have plenty sufficient water to help sustain trees. The rains are now here with us. Kindly use this opportunity to plant as many trees as possible "- added Musyoka.

Musyoka stated that the tree planting initiative is under Isuzu EA's Community Social Responsibility, that is framed as giving back to the society. 
In the year 2014, Isuzu EA adopted 70 Hectares of Muumandu Hills Forest in Machakos County for afforestation. The Forest is part of the Muumandu Hills Forest Ecosystem which supports a population of over 8,000 people and has also been designated by the government as a government Forest under the Kenya Forest Services.

The tree planting activity at Muumandu Hills Forest was officiated by the Isuzu EA management, over 250 Isuzu employees, it's implementing partners and other stakeholders including the area community.

Today, 3,000 trees were planted during the exercise and others distributed to the locals to plant in their homes.

Musyoka noted that the initiative of planting trees at Muumandu Hills Forest, was resolved to help restore the green Forest cover that was initially in place.

Isuzu EA in collaboration with other stakeholders, has since before,drilled a borehole in the area, that was commissioned 2 years ago, to help restore the green Forest cover.

The company targets to plant over 8,000 tree seedlings as part of its target of planting 10,000 trees on 10 acres by close of business this year- 2023.
