On Monday afternoon, Machakos County Government represented by Machakos Chief of Staff - Lawrence Ngovi, officially commissioned a new Borehole at Machakos G.K Prison.
The exercise was in partnership with Machakos development partner, I Love Africa- a Korean NGO, whom Machakos County has walked together in the journey to drill, equip and power the Borehole.
Provision of clean water for domestic consumption has been a key component in Governor Wavinya's broad agenda.
Chief of Staff Lawrence Ngovi, said that Machakos County government is committed to substantially improve access to drinking water and other uses in the county .
Machakos G.K Prison hosts more than 2,000 people including about 1,000 inmates and similar number of Prison staff and their families. The huge community puts pressure on the demand for water.
According to Ngovi, the Borehole comes through as a relief to the Machakos G.K Prison community. It will ease the pressure on the Principal source of water which distributes the commodity across the town.
The solar - powered pump will also present the huge benefit of eliminating the high cost of electricity.
According to Ngovi, the Governor's dream is to see the residents of Machakos County access water within the shortest distance possible and use the resource to grow food and trees to actualize her agenda of ' Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni' philosophy.
Machakos G.K Prison administration thanked the County government and I Love Africa NGO for such a humane project , promising to take care of the project.
